How do I get my website online?

First of all, make sure you have purchased webspace from fairBroadband or webspace is included in your package.

If free webspace is included in your package you need to activate it by going to:
http://www.fairadsl.co.uk/activatewebspace.php

The normal way of uploading files from your computer to our servers (or uploading your beautifully
designed website) is via FTP which stands for "File Transfer Protocol". There are quite a few different FTP software packages for Windows and Mac users. Windows users can try CuteFTP, WSFTP, Leapftp, Serv-U, Crystal FTP, or any others. Mac users should check out Tucows. A search on the word "FTP" will get you a number of free FTP programmes. Front Page or Dreamweaver have FTP integrated, so you won't need another application

Each of these applications does things slightly differently, but all of them need three very important details: firstly, the name of the FTP server you're uploading your files to (this could be called site, host or address) secondly, your username and thirdly your password. You might not see a place to type in your username and your password; if that is the case check if the option to log in anonymously is checked, and uncheck it. That might help.

Continue with the ftp server: Fill in ftp.yourdomain.com. If you've just bought your domain and webspace, this might not work instantly. It takes time for these sort of changes (changes to the DNS) to travel around the world.

The username and password were emailed to you when your website was first set up. You can check them at any time by logging into your domain and going to the Website section.

Your software may ask you for a host directory, starting directory or default folder. Leave this blank.

I have broken images on my website
Our web servers are case-sensitive, so photo.gif is a different file from Photo.GIF.If you get broken images or links when you upload your website that you didn't get whilst designing your website, check the cases of the files that aren't working. Just make all filenames in lower case to avoid confusion in the future.

index.htm
The default page for your website is index.htm.
