My USB modems power
light is very dim, does this explain why it is not working? |
| |
Possibly, USB Broadband modems
draw quite a lot of power (2.5milli watt), if your PC
can not provide this, you will experience problems. To
test if this is a problem, remove all other USB devices.
If you still have problems, your PC or laptop may have
a problem with its USB bus. |

My data light on my USB
modem is blinking, does this explain why it is not working
properly? |
| |
A flashing data light indicates
it is trying to establish a connection with the exchange.
This could be failing for a number of reasons.
There is a problem at the exchange, you will need to speak
with us to resolve this. · You are not getting
enough power to your USB modem. · Broadband has
not been enabled on your line. · Your USB Broadband
modem has not been installed properly. · Your
USB Broadband modem is faulty (very unlikely, only suspect
this if all other avenues have been investigated). |

Should I plug in my USB
modem before installing the software? |
| |
This depends on which modem
you have bought from fairBroadband. The CopperJet modem will
install on plugging in the USB cable, no preloaded software
is required.
Other modems require that software is installed first;
the software will then prompt you to plug the modem in.
If you plug the modem in first, it may install incorrectly.
If you have done this inadvertently, uninstall the hardware
first, and then go through the install process. |

I have a laptop, will my
USB modem work with a laptop? |
| |
If you have a USB port on
your laptop it should work without any problems. However
laptops are more likely to have issues with this as they
typically can not provide as much power as a desktop system.
Several problems with power and laptops have been reported.
In theory, USB modems and laptops should work without
any problems. |

I have a VIA chipset motherboard,

true? |
| |
|

There have been some problems
with some VIA chipsets on certain motherboards the KT133,
KT7, Asus A7V and Alcatel modems. This is believed to
be a wider USB bus issue. Either contact your motherboard
manufacturer or VIA directly to see if you are effected
by this problem, or visit http://www.USBman.com, a very
useful page which allows you to download the latest 4
in 1 drivers. Another site to look at is http://www.viahardware.com. |
